First Week!

9/11/09
Today is 9/11 and as all of our teachers remind us of the terrible tragedy that befell our country 8 years ago, I can't help but wonder why our country has decided to call it Patriot's Day. I fully agree with remembering all the lives that were lost but I feel like "Patriot's Day" sounds celebratory and is better suited for another date of the year. We didn't make the attack on Pearl Harbor a holiday, so why did 9/11 become one? Maybe I don't fully understand, or I'm being insensitive, but I can't help but wonder.

9/12/09
I saw the movie "9" today with Ian, Miranda and Jeff. It was produced by Tim Burton so I expected it to be dark and thought-provoking. I wasn't disappointed. 9 takes place in a post-apocalyptic world after humans designed super intelligent war machines that turned on them and destroyed humanity. I check the technology news on Gizmodo everyday and I'm usually excited to hear about human achievements, but after watching "9" I am wondering if I should be excited or scared of the rate at which our technology is advancing.
