12.31.09- HAPPY NEW YEAR! I attended a 40s themed New Years party at Billy’s house. Much like my birthday I expected way more than I felt when the clock changed at midnight. It certainly didn’t feel like a new year, and definitely not a new decade. I was almost ashamed at the performers that sang after new years too. Is Turnin’ Me On by Keri Hilson really a song to bring in the New Year? The song is basically a booty call for guys. It’s really stupid. I hope 10 years from now we’re going to look back and realize how stupid we were, but I expect that we will look back and be surprised at how clean it was in comparison to how explicit music will get at this rate. Ah well. I still had a lot of fun, and I’d definitely rather live in 2010 then 1950. We just have so many more opportunities and resources for knowledge at our disposal. I’m simultaneously embarrassed and proud of how far we’ve come.
1/2/10- Many of my friends convened at Darcy’s tonight for a last night of fun before school starts up again. The best game we played was one that Annick taught me (she learned it at school.) It’s called Hug-a-Bear and involves basically three pairs of people and an extra who holds the camera and stands on the other side of the room. The extra calls two pairs. One of the people tries to get to the person with the camera while the other attempts to hold them back. Its really as simple as that. The game was incredibly simple but incredibly violent. We played for 2 hours and almost all boys suffered at least one “severe” injury. I’m incredibly sore but it’s a game that I will definitely play again. I think what made it so much fun was how in tune in made me feel with my natural instincts as I fought man to man (or woman) with all of my friends, fighting for nothing but pure satisfaction. We also had to show intense effort to win and gain the right to sit out a round and film. Finally, I think the game demonstrated the strength and trust of our friendships, as we were able to violently attack each other but still have fun and trust that no one would actually be harmed.
